A Message from our Headmaster

Dear PRCA Lion Community –

In 1911, Sir Ernest Shackleton, the famed Antarctic explorer, put an ad in the London Times to recruit sailors for an expedition to traverse the South Pole. The ad read: “Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.”
The response to the advertisement was so overwhelming one witness said, “that it seemed all Great Britain was determined to accompany him.”
That’s the spirit of Adventure!
How alive is your spirit of Adventure? Even though we are not facing a hazardous journey to the Antarctic, this year of 2020 AD – with its global pandemic, protests and riots, economic uncertainty, and polarized election – is proving to be a real roller-coaster. At Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, we have embraced our LORD’s command and promise to Joshua (1:9), “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
To be a Christian is to be an intrepid adventurer. If you read the Bible rightly you will see that it is an adventure book through and through. It has all the elements. There is always the presence of the marvelous and miraculous, danger and surprise, storms and shipwrecks, disguises and escapes, battles and ambushes, travels and quests, hidings and pursuits, arrests and trials. The Acts of the Apostles would be better titled ‘The Adventures of the Apostles.’
In this spirit, we opened school in-person and on-campus August 17, and our gracious Heavenly Father has been with us every step of the way. God is good!

Be strong and courageous; the Lord is with us!

2020-2021 School Board

"The purpose of the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy School Board is to assist the families of our school and the greater Tucson evangelical community in their God-ordained responsibility to raise their children in the fullness of Christian discipleship by providing a Biblical education with a classical curricula emphasis in Kindergarten through 12th grade. In pursuit of this purpose, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy does not seek to replace or duplicate the unique roles and responsibilities of the family or the church, but rather to partner covenantally with them, offering a challenging academic, college-preparatory courses of learning whereby the succeeding generations will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, character, will, and biblical worldview to meet the complex challenges of our ever-changing world."
Thanks to all of our Board Members for their continued hard work and dedication to PRCA!

A Message from our Board President

PRCA community,

We are all familiar with the joke: “How do you make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.” In the past year the reality of that joke was understood by all of us. 2020 was one of the most turbulent years ever for PRCA, and the world. The careful plans we made were upended by a global pandemic. We thought we would be developing and executing a five year strategic plan. Instead, our faculty and staff were scrambling to deploy online/remote learning in March and working doubly hard over the summer to develop a restart plan for the fall. We thought we would be advancing all of our carefully planned and funded capital improvement projects. Instead, we were trying to find ways to balance a budget in a highly uncertain economic environment.

Even through all this recent uncertainty, the Lord has continued blessing PRCA. Recently, we have been blessed by the opening of new facilities at both PRCA campus sites. At our Grammar School campus we have added an outdoor classroom for our science and nature studies units. At our Upper School campus we have added a new educational building with 14 classrooms (including dedicated fine arts classrooms and music practice rooms), and a donated 9,600 square foot modular building. In the wake of COVID-19 and its impact upon PRCA, physical distancing has become a necessary part of campus life at PRCA. Without these new facilities, our ability to deliver PRCA’s curriculum and pursue our mission, while abiding by physical distancing recommendations, would have been impossible. Praise the Lord for His provision at exactly the right time!

In spite of the challenges we face, I am still excited for what God has in store for PRCA. I remain convinced that God is leading PRCA to be a blessing to Tucson and the surrounding communities. Our mission “to teach our students to become like Christ through a classical Christian education, within a covenantal community” is more important now than ever. The cultural, societal, and even public health challenges we face are not small. However I am convinced that PRCA is positioned to continue delivering an excellent classical, Christian education while engaging the culture to demonstrate the love of Christ. Only His love can change hearts, heal wounds, and bring people together.

PRCA is filled with wise people that have a passion for teaching God’s truth to young people. In a world that embraces foolishness, PRCA teaches wisdom. In a population that exploits divisions between people, PRCA teaches unity in Christ. In a society that is boastful, PRCA teaches humility. The world sees truth as relative, but PRCA teaches truth as absolute.

Thank you for your commitment to, and support of, PRCA.

In His service,

Todd Vanden Branden
PRCA Board Chair
