Getting to Know Melanie Sunukjian

High School Bible Teacher
"I hope to persuade them that Jesus and the Holy Scriptures are still (and especially) relevant for today."

How long have you been at PRCA?
I've been part of this community almost 3 years, as a parent, Guest Teacher, as part of Moms in Prayer and now as a High School Bible Teacher.

Any interesting jobs/positions you have had prior to working here that have strongly influenced you as a person and/or in your role at PRCA?
I was a Resident Director at Biola University, have been a classical homeschool mom/tutor, women's Bible study teacher, and continue to be an International Advocate & National Director with Trades of Hope.

Where did you grow up, and what is your educational background?
I grew up in Las Vegas, NV. I have a Communication Studies Bachelor's degree from Biola University, a Master of Arts in Interpersonal Communication from Cal State Fullerton and I just started the slow trek toward a Master of Arts in Global Studies from Liberty University.

Tell us about your family.
My husband Luke is a HS Math teacher at PRCA and I have four children that are students here including Leah (senior), John (freshman), Noelle (7th), and Karis (3rd).

What keeps you busy outside of school?
#ForcedFamilyFun, Trades of Hope advocacy and marketing, reading, researching, podcasts, hiking, yummy restaurants, evening chocolate, daily kombucha, morning coffee & conversations with growing friends.

How do you hope to make a difference in the lives of PRCA students each year?
Share HOPE, listen well, ask good questions, lead these students to "consider the kindness and severity of God" (Romans 11:22) and persuade them that Jesus and the Holy Scriptures are still (and especially) relevant for today.

What do you love most about Pusch Ridge Christian Academy?
The community at PRCA is amazing! The faculty and staff live with truth, grace, honesty, celebration, humility, and humor and we felt immediately welcomed and appreciated here.

Why do you think Christian education is important for families to consider?
As a former classical, Christian homeschool mom and busy parent of 4 kids going in different directions, I recognize firsthand how difficult it is to consistently and deeply disciple our own children. PRCA came at just the right time to give each of my children multiple Christian adults to speak godly, loving wisdom into their lives right about when they were tired of hearing if from us. ;) The enemy and the world are growing increasingly blatant about trying to undo what God and Christian parents have sewn into the lives of their children. Let us come alongside you to continue the good work that you have started (or intended to) and be the "Christian village" that it takes to disciple this generation for their sake, the world's benefit and God's glory.

What's one thing that makes PRCA unique?
It's a THRIVING classical Christian school! We came from small homeschool communities and a tiny classical Christian school in California that has not been able to thrive due to high cost of living/tuition and a lack of tax credit and scholarship opportunities. We are blown away that most of our children's education is paid for by generous local scholarship organizations and a state that values educational choice enough to put their money where their mouth is!

What is something that most people don't know about you?
I have all sorts of future dreams involving speaking, writing and traveling!
